Think Plastics collection site partners
Think Plastics Inc. collects, recycles and re-uses all-white 100% polyethylene bale wrap and greenhouse film. The program was established in 2005 with the co-operation of 11 transfer stations. The Ontario Federation of Agriculture has been, and continues to be, instrumental in promoting the program to farmers and municipalities. Today 34 transfer sites within a 200-mile radius of Think Plastics’ New Hamburg facility are participating and all have waived tipping fees for farmers. Farmers are simply required to shake the wrap to remove major clumps of dirt and stones and roll it into 3 – 5 lb balls. Think Plastics picks up the material with a modified compactor truck. Farmers cannot deliver the plastic directly to the company. If your municipality is not participating in the collection program, please encourage your local Waste Management Department to contact Think Plastics directly for details. Five large Ontario nurseries are also actively involved in the program. Nursery operators with large quantities of all-white polyethylene film should also contact the company. The provincial government provides no financial support for the operation; nor do the companies that manufacture bale wrap or greenhouse films. Think Plastics continues to lobby the Province to help fund the program and to recognize the waste diversion efforts of participating municipalities. Southgate Township spearheaded the bale wrap collection program by opening transfer station sites in Egremont and Dundalk. “The reason Southgate got involved is we wanted to show leadership as we believe Think Plastics simply has the best solution environmentally to assist our community with the tons of bale wrap we receive”, Mayor Don Lewis commented. There are certain requirements for establishing a collection site. For details, watch the following video or contact Think Plastics. |
